David Tang (1954-29 August 2017), PhD, University of Cambridge, UK, the eldest grandson of Sir Tang Shiu-kin, was born in Jiujiang, South China Sea, Hong Kong. Tang was educated in Hong Kong as a child at La Salle College, and later studied in the UK.

Earlier in his career, he was involved in offshore oil exploration in China and gold mining in Africa. After that, he established China clubs in Hong Kong, Beijing and Singapore, as well as brands Shanghai Tang Tang, Tang Dao and Tang Pavilion. He is also the exclusive distributor of Cuban cigars Cohiba in Canada, Asia and Australia. In addition, he has been a director and consultant to international companies, including Blackstone, Tommy Hilfiger, and the Savoy Hotel Group.

Sir David has a passion for design and takes an extremely careful approach to the details of every venture he is involved in, from the building itself to the last screw.

On 29 August 2017, Tang died of liver cancer in the UK at the age of 63
